EHealth reports 1Q loss

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) _ EHealth Inc. (EHTH) on Friday reported a loss of $2.1 million in its first quarter.

The Mountain View, California-based company said it had a loss of 12 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, were 26 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 18 cents per share.

The provider of Internet-based heath insurance agency services posted revenue of $61.3 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $46.2 million.

EHealth shares have decreased 54 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 75 percent in the last 12 months.
